Sean James – Nifty Native Plants

Sean James – Nifty Native Plants

Sean James has been gardening professionally since age fourteen. He is a graduate of the prestigious Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, a Master Gardener and runs an environmentally-friendly landscaping company in Ontario where he has designed and implemented landscapes from Nova Scotia to California. Sean has been a regular speaker with horticultural societies, Master Gardener chapters, environmental groups and service clubs throughout Ontario for more than 30 years and was named one of “20 Canadians Making a Difference” in the Canada-wide magazine GardenMaking. He has presented at Canada Blooms, the North West Flower and Garden Show, several botanical gardens, and at landscape trade shows, including HortEast and CanWest, and has taught at the college level for almost two decades.

In this Talk Sean will tackle the belief that going native means a sacrifice in beauty. It does not! Sean will discuss various desirable ornamental natives, including some you may not know as native, and their benefits to birds and pollinators. Location suitability will be dealt with, including addressing difficult soils and situations. We may even get into the debate on ‘Nativars’! One of Sean’s most popular speeches!
